Plump Up Your Pout

Have you noticed your lips looking a little less full with every passing birthday? It’s not your imagination! Our faces naturally lose volume as we age as collagen production slows down which filters down to our lips as well. This can leave us feeling self-conscious about our smiles and longing for that youthful fullness. Thanks to aesthetic medicine, we can restore fullness to the lips with lip fillers in a single visit!

What Are Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers are injectable gels that add volume and definition to your lips to plump up the area from the inside out. The most common type of lip filler is made from hyaluronic acid (HA). This is actually a substance naturally found in your body that helps keep your skin hydrated and plump. HA attracts and binds to water molecules, which is what creates the plumping effect. Think of it like a sponge – it soaks up water and expands!

Here’s a closer look at how lip fillers work:

When HA filler is injected into areas of the lips that lack volume, it has the ability to attract and hold water thousands of times its weight to plump your lips.

Hyaluronic acid is a great choice due to its biocompatibility meaning it is not identified as foreign by the body. If you have a reaction or change your mind we can dissolve the filler with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.

What To Expect

You will meet with our aesthetic specialist to discuss your aesthetic concerns and how much volume you’d like to add to your lips. We’ll make sure you don’t have any allergies and run through any previous cosmetic procedures you may have had.

The lips tend to be a very sensitive area so before we start injecting we’ll numb your lips with a topical anesthetic cream so you don’t feel too much discomfort. This can take 15-30 minutes to take effect.

Our aesthetician will mark the injection points before injecting small amounts of filler into specific areas of your lips using a very fine needle. The process itself usually takes 10-15 minutes. We will gently massage your lips to distribute the filler evenly and assess the results. You’ll be asked to pucker or smile so we can make sure your lips are symmetrical.

We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours after your fillers. You should also apply ice to the area to minimise any swelling and reveal your final look faster.

Remember:

  • Results Take Time: Don’t be surprised if your lips look a bit swollen right after the procedure. This will take a few days to go away. Your final results can take up to two weeks to fully appear.
  • Top-Up Appointments: Hyaluronic acid fillers gradually break down over time, so you may need top-up appointments every 6-18 months to maintain your desired look.
